Like many, my home working environment has evolved quite dramatically over the past 2 years. Initially it felt very temporary but when I became a virtual assistant, I decided to improve my home office by creating something more permanent, comfortable, and inspiring.
We spend so much of our time working and the environment in which we work can have a very real effect on us. I’m a firm believer that a thoughtfully designed home office can boost productivity and improve the quality of our work.
Natural light is a ‘must’ for me. I’m very lucky to work in a very bright space with lots of natural sunlight (when it decides to make an appearance!). It’s been scientifically proven that sunlight enhances our mood and mental health. And when we feel good, we are more productive.
Presentation is also very important. I find it very difficult working in a muddled and chaotic space – it holds back my productivity. Organisational systems and designating specific places to store items keeps my space and my mind clear from clutter. Not only is this practical, it means that my office looks great! There’s so much more satisfaction and enjoyment to be had when your workspace is somewhere you like to spend time.
And let’s not forget about plants! It’s so wonderful to bring a bit of nature indoors, and studies show that this can help us feel less stressed.
With just a few simple changes, I have created a home office that brings out the best in me and my work. It’s no secret that happy workers accomplish great things—so if you’re feeling a bit fed up with your home working environment, why not make some small changes and create a home office to be enjoyed.
